[Kaattu Roja] Entha oor endravane

This is a song filled with சிலேடை – chilaedai – pun. This song is set as answer to the question, which is your place (of living i.e. geographical location) And the answer unfolds the philosophical locations – life cycle with its ups and downs, while it also refers to actually existing places (towns / villages)

The visualisation of the song needs special mention as it portrays the meaning beautifully and poetically.

endhdha oor endRavanae
irundhdha oorai chollavaa?

andhdha oor neeyumkooda
aRindhdha oor allavaa!

You asked for which is my place, right?
Shall I say the place where I was?
That is a place, you too would have known!
(For this is a journey of you too! )

udalooril vaazhndhdhirundhdhaen
uRavooril midhandhdhirundhdhaen
karuvooril kudi pugundhdhaen
maNNooril vizhundhdhu vittaen!

I was living in Udaloor (Udal – body)
I was floating in Uravoor (Uravu – relationship)
I took to reside at Karuvoor (Karu – womb)
I later fell into Mannoor (Mann – Soil – here as earth)

kaNNooril thavazhndhdhirundhdhaen
kaiyooril vaLarndhdhirundhdhaen
kaalooril nadandhdhu vandhdhaen
kaaLaiyoor vandhdhuvittaen!

I crawled in kannoor (kann – eyes)
I grew up in Kaiyoor (kai – hands)
I walked through Kaaloor (Kaal – legs)
I reached Kaalaiyoor (Kaalai – Ox / The stage of Youth for male)

vaelooraip paarthu vittaen
vizhiyooril kalandhdhu vittaen
paalooRum paruvam ennum
pattinathil kudibugundhdhaen!

I had seen Vellore (vel – spear – Spear signifies victory as well as the shape of eyes of a girl)
(Vellore is also famous for its Jail – So can be taken as he had had a rough past)

I mingled up in Vizhiyoor (vizhi – eyes / vision)
I took my next residence in the town
Known as Paaloor (Paaloorum paruvam – the stage of adult)

kaadhaloor kaattiyavaL
kaattooril vittuvittaaL
kanniyoor maRandhdhavudan
kadalooril vizhundhdhuvittaen!

She, who showed Kaadhaloor (kaadhal – love)
Left me alone in Kaattoor (Kaadu – Forest / unknown territory)
After I forgot Kanniyoor (Kanni – young maiden)
I fell into Kadaloor (Kadal – Sea / Water – Might refer to drinks too)

paLLathoor thannil ennai
paridhavikka vittu vittu
maettooril andhdha manggai
maelaeRi nindRu koNdaaL!

After letting me despair, in the Pallathoor, (Pallam – pitfall)
The lady stood high in the Mettoor
(Mettur – Famous for the Kallanai, a dam made of stones – symbolizing stone hearted;
Medu – The opposite of pitfall, a little mount – symbolizing difference in status)

keezhuril vaazhvadhaRkum
kiLimozhiyaaL illaiyadaa
maelooru poavadhaRkum
vaeLai varavillaiyadaa!

I don’t have a girl with sweetness of parrot’s language (a partner / spouse)
To live in Keezhoor (Keezh – down, here refers to earth)
Neither the time has come for me,
To go to Maeloor (Mael – above, here refers to heaven/death)
