Movie: Nizhal Nijamagiradhu
Poet: Kannadasan
Singer: S. P. Balasubrahmanyam
Music Director: M. S. Viswanathan
Song sequence: (1)-(1)-(2)-(3)-(3)-(4)-(5)-(1)-(2)-(6)-(7)-(1)

kampan aemaandhdhaan
iLam kanniyarai oru malar endRaanae
kampan aemaandhdhaan

Kamban sure was duped,
For he thought of  young women as flower;
Kamban was for sure duped!

kaRpanai seydhaanae
kampan aemaandhdhaan

With his imagination,
Kamban was for sure duped!

ampu vizhi endRu aen sonnaan
adhu paayvadhinaal thaanoa

Why did he refer to her eyes as being arrow like?
is it because they strike ?

avaL arunjjuvaip paalena aen sonnaan
adhu kodhippadhanaal thaanoa

He referred to her as the exquisite milk sweet?
is it because she too boils (with her temper)?

theebathin Joadhiyil thirukkuRaL padithaal
theebathin perumaiyandRoa
andhdha theebathinaal oru nenjathai erithaal
theebamum paavamandRoa

If one were to read Thirukkural under a lamp’s light?
The glory is the lamp’s too!
However if with the same lamp a heart was burnt,
isn’t the lamp too to be blamed?

vaLLuvan iLanggoa paaradhi endRoru
varisaiyai naan kaNdaen
andhdha varisaiyil uLLavar mattumalla ada
naanum aemaandhdhaen

I have heard the glory of great poets like,
Thiruvalluvar, Ilango Adigal and Subramanya Bharathi,
Not only these stalwarts,
But I too join the queue as being duped (by women)!

athiram (aathiram ?) enpadhu peNkaLukkellaam
aduppadi varaidhaanae
oru aadhikka naayagan saadhikka vandhdhaal
adanggudhal muRaidhaanae

Ain’t it that for women, all their skills/prowess (all the anger and hastiness?),
are (should be) limited to the boundaries of a kitchen?
Now, when a dominant hero comes to take over the reins (and accomplish),
Isn’t it only correct to yield (obey)?
